The Basic Poker Rules

Now I will explain the basic of poker rules. Poker is generally played from a standard 52 card package. But there are several other variants of poker that use several packages or add several cards called jokers. The cards are ranked from the highest to the lowest. Starting from the highest is Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. In some game variants, an Ace can be considered high or low, but usually high. And there are four card suits, namely spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. However, nothing is higher than the others. All poker cards contain five cards, and the winner is the highest value card.

Some other card games have Wild Cards, which can take any suit and rank the desires of the owner. Sometimes jokers will be used as wild cards, at other times, the game will determine which cards are wild, such as dueces, one-eyed jacks, or whatever. But in poker rules, there are no cards like this.

The Rules of Poker Hand Rankings

1. Five of a Kind

The Five of a Kind is the highest possible hands in poker sequence. The point is that if more than one hand has five similar cards, the higher card wins. For example, Five Aces defeats five kings, who defeat five queens, and so on. But poker cards of this high rank can only appear if you use a wild card.

2. Straight Flush

In poker, straight flush is often referred as the best natural hand. Straight flush is a combination of straight cards or 5 consecutive cards, such as 4-5-6-7-8, all of which are of the same kind. Like on regular straight, you can have an ace either high (A-K-Q-J-T) or low (5-4-3-2-1). However, straight cannot be 'wraparound'. (Like K-A-2-3-4, which is not straight). A high straight flush Ace is called the Royal Flush and is the highest natural hand.

3. Four of a Kind

Four of a kind is only four poker cards of the same rank. If there are two or more hands that meet the requirements, the hand with the ranking of the four higher kind wins. If, in some strange games with lots of wild cards, there are two types with the same rank, then one with a high card outside of four types wins. The general rule is that when the hand is tied to the rank of a pair, three types, etc., the card outside breaks the relationship following the rules of the High Card.

4. Full House

Full house is a combination of three of kind and pairs, such as K-K-K-4-4. So it is broken down first by three kind, then pairs. So K-K-K-3-3 defeated Q-Q-Q-A-A, which defeated Q-Q-Q-J-J. From this example, all three of kind can only be similar if wild cards are used.

5. Flush

Flush is a poker hand combination where all cards have the same suit. Like J-8-5-3-2, where everything is a spade type. When the flushes ties, we must follow the rules for the High Card.

6. Straight

Straight is 5 consecutive poker card combinations, such as 4-5-6-7-8. In this poker ranking, Ace can be high value (A-K-Q-J-T) or low (5-4-3-2-1). However, straight should not be used as a 'wraparound' only. Like Q-K-A-2-3, where this combination is not straight. When the straight tie, the highest straight would win. Like AKQJT defeated KQJT9, up to 5432A. If two straight has the same value, like AKQJT vs. AKQJT, then they have to divide the pot.

7. Three of a Kind

Three of a Kind are 3 poker card combinations of any rank that match two cards that are not pairs. Because if not, it will become a Full House. Again, the highest three of a kind would win. If both have the same rank, then compare the High Card.

8. Two Pair

Two Pair are two different pairs of poker cards and the 5th card. The highest pair wins the ties. And if both hands have the same high pair, then the second pair would wins. But if both hands have the same pair, then the high card wins.

9. Pair

Pair is the poker card combination with three different cards. And the High cards break ties.

10. High Card

High Cards in poker are any cards that do not belong to one of the cards above. If no one has a pair or better, the highest card would wins. If some people tie for the highest card, they see the second highest, then the third highest etc. High cards are also used to cut ties when high hands both have the same type of hand, such as pair, flush, straight, etc.

5 Card Poker Rules

This is a brief explanation about 5 card poker rules. Betting and First Round. After the blind is posted, the hands are in progress. With the 5 Card Draw, those five cards are dealt face down to each player in hand. And it starting with the player to the left of the dealer button. After all of the cards are dealt, the first round of betting occurs.

The Rules of Poker Betting

How do you bet on poker? Moreover Poker is one of the gambling games. In most of gambling games, you have to "ante" something. And the amount varies according to the game, our game is usually in the form of nickel, only to get the cards shared. After that the player bet on the pot in the middle. At the end of the hand, the highest hand that hasn't been folded will win the pot. In poker, bets are usually carried out in a clockwise order. And basically, when bets approach you, you have one of the following three choices:

Call

When you choose to call, you bet enough to match what you have bet since the last time you bet. For example, if you bet one last time, and someone else makes a quarter, then you will owe fifteen cents.

Raise

When you choose to raise, you first bet enough to match what you have bet since the last time you bet (as in a call). Then you can 'raise' bets with other amounts. The amount you can raise is up to you, but there is usually a limit. And if you bet a dime, someone else raises you fifteen cents, even a quarter, you might raise a quarter, up to fifty cents. Because you owe a pot of 15 cents to call and 25 to raise your bet, you will put 40 cents into the pot.

Fold

When you choose to fold, you are out of hand now. And you lose the possibility to win the pot. But after you choose to fold, you don't need to put money in the pot. Then the bet continues until everyone calls or folds after the bet increases or starts.

Standard Betting Poker Rules

In the group where I play, we bet one nickel. The maximum first bet is fifty cents, and the maximum increase is fifty cents. However, during one round of betting, the total increase may not exceed one dollar. But maybe in other places the stakes can be different.
